Surrey sits about 40km away from London. It might be on the way if you’re headed south for a beach day or stag/hen night in Brighton or Portsmouth. The brand, which launched in 2015, recently held an event at Shibuya’s famed Music Bar Cave, in collaboration with Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo, titled “A Night of Style & Gin.” I showed up acting like I knew something about style.
Joke’s on them. Anyone who knows me can see I know nothing about style, but I might know something about gin. One of the cool things about Silent Pool gin is that they use not one, not two, but four different methods to get the gin’s myriad botanicals into the distillate. High-aromatic herbs like juniper and cardamom are macerated with the base spirit, florals like lavender and rose go in as a large teabag, and peels like orange and lime go into the vapor basket. In the pot, they also add honey and two more botanicals, bringing the total to a whopping 25 botanicals. Overall, it’s certainly not a London dry gin; if that’s not your thing, definitely give it a try.
The event highlighted those botanicals, and it had style. Flower artist Ayumi Fujita flanked brand ambassador Kyoka Ogawa to handle that part. Given the event was held in collaboration with Rakuten Fashion Week, the cocktail menu leaned heavily into perfume and fashion themes.
