Kagoshima’s Japanese Craft Gin Juju

Kagoshima-based Hamada Syuzo is the latest shochu distiller to enter the Japanese craft gin scene. On May 14 they’ll be releasing a new gin dubbed “Japanese Craft Gin Juju,” containing 7 botanicals. But they’ve only named 5 of them:

  • Yuzu
  • Juniper berry
  • Chamomile
  • Orange peel
  • Coriander

Hamada Syuzo is suggesting a 1:2 or 1:4 ratio of gin and soda water, not tonic, when you make a drink with this. Like many Japanese craft gins, it starts out as a rice shochu, fermented with black koji. 38% abv, 700ml, and retails for 1940 yen before tax. Look for it on May 14!
