There’s finally a certified Vegan sake

The world now has its first officially Vegan sake, coming from Iwate Prefecture’s Nambu Bijin.

By nature, pretty much all sake is probably Vegan anyway, since it’s generally only made from koji, rice, and water. But actually obtaining certification as a Vegan product is a different story, as that requires inspection of ingredients. All told, it took Nambu Bijin about 4 years to get through the process.

Nambu Bijin–all of their products!–are now certified Vegan by VegeProject Japan for domestic purposes, and also certified by The Vegan Society to use the trademark for overseas/export purposes. It’s also certified kosher!
