Benzakura Distillery 9148 gin, Recipe #3891

Another new Japanese gin comes out today: 9148 recipe #3891 from Sapporo’s Benizakura Distillery. It’s a release designed to highlight the autumn foliage of Japan’s northernmost prefecture.

The Benizakura Distillery makes pretty awesome gin! They were shutdown for a few days following the power outages due to the earthquake in Hokkaido this summer, so it’s good to see them recovered.

Recipe #3891 features 10 botanicals sourced from within Sapporo’s Benizakura Park, making this a hyperlocal gin:

  • Maple
  • Plum
  • Redcurrant
  • Butterbur root
  • Mulberry
  • Raspberry
  • Wasabi
  • Red shiso
  • Coriander root
  • Peppermint

Then there are even more botanicals from outside the park:

  • Juniper
  • Coriander seed
  • Angelica
  • Lemon
  • Kombu
  • Cardamom
  • Clove
  • Pink pepper

So there should be plenty going on in these bottles! There’s no word from Benizakura yet on pricing or where you can get them though.

For those wondering how it’s possible to make gin from botanicals collected in a park–please don’t try this at your local park–the answer is Benizakura Park is private property.
